First time ham buyers can now choose between a small and large "ham kit" which includes all the basics to get you started in the world of Spanish ham. New selections amongst others include "Just Tapas" and "Gift of Spain" which are expected to prove popular with UK and european customers throughout the year.

Avoiding confusion over Iberico (esp)

LA JUNTA DE ANDALUCÍA ABOGA POR CAMBIAR LA NORMA DE CALIDAD DEL IBÉRICO PARA EVITAR CONFUSIÓN.
La Junta de Andalucía ha comenzado a trabajar para modificar la actual norma de calidad del ibérico, con el objetivo de evitar la "confusión" que provoca el texto inicial y de identificar correctamente este producto.

Así lo ha asegurado el pasado viernes, 21 de mayo, la consejera andaluza de Agricultura y Pesca, Clara Aguilera, durante la inauguración del Centro de Interpretación de la Dehesa y de la nueva sede del Consejo Regulador de la Denominación de Origen (DO) "Los Pedroches", en la localidad cordobesa de Villanueva de Córdoba.

La norma de calidad del porcino ibérico representa "un gran problema" para los consumidores, porque provoca que les resulte "imposible" saber lo que están comprando. Según la consejera de Agricultura y Pesca, la normativa actual no identifica "bien" los productos y ha provocado que el "apellido ibérico" se haya extendido "más de lo debido".

El presidente de dicho Consejo Regulador Los Pedroches, Tomás Aránguez, ha indicado que la norma de calidad del porcino se está aplicando "mal", lo que ha provocado que, por un lado, el consumidor confunda entre "ibérico" e "ibérico puro" y, por otro, entre el ibérico de la Dehesa y el que tiene otra procedencia.

Orce Paleta

The Orce "Paleta" is the latest serrano ham to be chosen for your delicatessen. From the village of Orce in rural Granada, Andalucia this front leg is cured for 8 months and boasts a delicious flavour, texture and aroma.

Paleta's are smaller than the rear "serrano hams" but are just as tasty. Favoured by the locals for a slightly more intense flavour these front legs fit the bill both for first time Spanish ham buyers and also tapas enthusiasts looking for depth of flavour, ruby red appearance and something that goes exceptionally well with red wine.

These special 5kg legs will be available mid September 2009 with an introductory price of only 67.00 euros.

New Orce Jamon Reserva Launched

Back in February 2009 saw the launch of the new 16 month cured "Reserva" ham from Orce village. Following on from the success of the limited edition "150 Reserva" (named so due to the units produced for Christmas 2008) the new serrano ham was commissioned from Orce secadero to become a permanent line on the online delicatessen.
